Senior Mechanical Design Engineer
LOCATION: Sonnet Technologies, Engineering Division
Atlanta, Georgia

The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for new product designs, including conceptualizing, communicating ideas with marketing, prototyping ideas, designing, detailing and integrating new technologies into new products under minimal supervision.


The successful candidate will have the following responsibilities:
  • Working with the Design team to create new product concepts.
  • Selecting, commercializing and integrating technologies into products.
  • Performing mechanical design duties for new products, from concept to production of product.
  • Using Solid Works CAD software and equipment to perform engineering and design tasks.
  • Performing material selection.
  • Directing and coordinating manufacturing or building of prototype product.
  • Working within a cross functional team in the development effort.
  • Developing documentation to support new product development.
  • Creating cost estimates during the development cycle.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Job qualifications include the following:
  • BSME with minimum of 5-10 years work experience as a Mechanical Engineer. MSME a plus.
  • Must have Solid Works 3D CAD design experience and Autocad experience.
  • Must have Design Engineering experience in enclosure and sheet metal design.
  • Must be proficient and creative in industrial design.
  • Must have solid mechanical design and analytical skills.
  • Must be proficient with material selection, especially of aluminum and steel.
  • Must be familiar with tooling, plastic molding, extrusions, consumer electronics, and the specialized parts of this industry.
  • Must have thorough knowledge of sheet metal and bar stock fabrication techniques, such as punching, bending and milling.
  • Must have knowledge of finishing techniques, such as bead blasting, powdercoat, and anodizing.
  • Must have ability to support management with business planning, vendor selection, cost analysis, quotation, planning and scheduling.
  • Successful applicant will be resourceful and confident and able to multi-task under tight schedule constraints.
