From gigs in North and South America, Europe, Africa, Asia and across the Arab world, Iron Maiden brings legendary concerts of spectacular proportions. Never one to follow common conventions, Iron Maiden and its crew are always looking for new and creative ways to deliver amazing productions to a global audience.

"The Sonnet F2 changed the way we work during the tour,” says Johnny B. “We used it so many places where we had no power, and it allowed us to check edits immediately. We were able to cut videos on beaches in Puerto Rico, and miles up into the Andes. The ability to work with a MacBook Pro notebook and a Fusion F2 just about anywherewhether we’re at the venue, hotel, airport, or on the planewas instrumental in helping the success of the ‘Somewhere Back in Time’ tour. Case Study: Maday Productions Updates Post-Production Environment with Sonnet's Cost-Effective Storage Solution
Problem: Emmy Award-winning creative design firm in need of upgrading aging Apple Power Mac editing suite to Mac Pro systems with robust storage capable of providing fast, reliable access to HD content.
Solution: Sonnet’s 8-drive desktop Fusion D800RAID SATA storage system with PCI Express® RAID controller card providing speed, capacity, and security in storing HD content.
The Sonnet Fusion D800RAID SATA storage solution in operation at Maday Productions, a Chicago-based production and design firm, for the past 10 months replaced a 1TB Fibre Channel array. Investing in a larger Fibre Channel system was unappealing because of the high cost required for a relatively small gain in capacity. For Maday productions editor Jeremy Garchow and his colleagues cost as well as reliability were key factors in evaluating storage systems. The award-winning Fusion D800RAID met their requirements. The Fusion system is designed to meet the demands of HD editing and deliver the performance required by Maday editors, who typically finish client projects in uncompressed HD up to 1080i. Maday’s client list includes a diverse range of companies ranging from GE®, Harley-Davidson®, and the Chicago Mercantile Exchange® to Wilson and Boys Hope Girls Hope.

Best Storage Product of the Year: Sonnet Fusion F2 Wins Coveted Macworld 2008 Award
“We won!” was the text message emailed from Jolanda Blum, Sonnet’s Marketing Development Manager for Europe. “The Macworld award in the UK,” the message continues, “I just collected the awardI’m so excited!”
It was a night to remember at the annual Macworld Awards show, a prestigious event of pomp and circumstancemen in tuxedos and women in glamorous gowns, representatives of excellence in Mac products and technology. Now in its 13th year, the Macworld Award ceremony encompasses the best products the tech industry has to offer by category and selected and voted by Macworld readers and editors.
Sonnet’s Fusion F2 was nominated this year in the Best Storage Product category, going up against such notable storage titans as LaCie, Western Digital, and Iomega. Sonnet’s Fusion F2 is a portable 2-drive RAID storage system that features a 2-port eSATA interface and is bus-powered by a computer’s FireWire® port, all in a sleek, aluminum enclosure the size of two stacked CD cases.
Awarded earlier this year at NAB with the Digital Video Black Diamond Award and Student Filmmakers Best Choice NAB 2008 Award, it is quite the honor to also receive Macworld’s Best Storage Product of the Year. The recent string of awards is an acknowledgement to the success of hard work, dedication, and engineering excellence in Sonnet product development.

Awards are appreciated, but the true testament of the Fusion F2 is in the hands of editors, producers, photographers, and videographers who rely on the Fusion F2 for their demanding storage needs. Just recently, eleven Fusion F2 portable 2-drive RAID storage systems joined the heavy metal band Iron Maiden on their “Somewhere Back in Time” 2008 tour, serving as the nexus to the band’s terabytes of HD video and photo storage. For on location video editing, Madday Productions, a Chicago-based video production and design firm, relied on the Fusion F2 connected to a Sonnet Tempo SATA ExpressCard/34 plugged into a MacBook Pro along with AJA IoHD system. Jeremy Garchow of Madday Productions states, “The Fusion F2 should be in every mobile editors’ tool case. You cannot deny its convenience, form factor, and ease of use. As a matter of fact, get two.”
As the Macworld award ceremony drew to a close, Jolanda collected the award statue and posed for pictures with members of the Macworld staff. Jolanda stood tall and proud in her elegant evening dress, a beaming smile of humble gratitude spread across her face with the award firmly in hand underneath the spotlight. Thank you again to the editors and readers of Macworld for the acknowledgement and recognition. We look forward to bringing even more innovative storage solutions to the market in the years to come.
