603 Which HDMI adapter should I use to connect an HDMI monitor to an Echo Express Thunderbolt PCIe Expansion Chassis' Thunderbolt port?Mar-19-15
For video up to and including 1080p (1920x1080), Sonnet recommends either the "Moshi Mini DP to HDMI Adapter with Audio Support" or the "Griffin Mini DisplayPort to HDMI with Audio + DVI". Many other adapters are poorly designed and have issues with proper color space.

For video up to and including 4k (3840x2160) which is supported by Thunderbolt 2, Sonnet recommends the Accell B086B-005B-2 Ultra Display Port 1.1 to HDMI 1.4 Adapter.

889 How do I connect Thunderbolt 3 computers to Sonnet Echo Express Expansion Chassis? What performance increase can I expect?Nov-24-17
There are two ways to connect Thunderbolt 3 computers to Sonnet Thunderbolt 2 products.

1) Using Apple Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to Thunderbolt Adapter

The Apple Adapter will allow you to connect a Thunderbolt 3 Mac to any Sonnet self-powered Thunderbolt or Thunderbolt 2 device, at about the same performance. (The Apple adapter also works with some Thunderbolt 3 PCs, but the compatibility results vary.)

2) Using Sonnet Thunderbolt 3 Upgrade Card for Sonnet Echo Express Expansion chassis.

•Echo Express SEL or SE I Thunderbolt II Expansion Chassis with Sonnet Thunderbolt 3 Upgrade Card becomes equivalent to an Echo Express SEL or SE I Thunderbolt III Edition, respectively, like this:
PCIe 3.0 slot--Sonnet Thunderbolt 3 Card--Thunderbolt 3 Cable--Thunderbolt 3 computer
Maximum performance will be from 30% more (with a PCIe 2.0 card) to twice as fast (with a PCIe 3.0 card) compared with Thunderbolt 2 (1350MB/s-->2700MB/s).

•Echo Express SE II, III-D or III-R Thunderbolt 2 PCIe Expansion Chassis upgraded with a Sonnet Thunderbolt 3 Upgrade Card become this:
PCIe 2.0 slots--PCIe 2.0 Bridge--Sonnet Thunderbolt 3 Card--Thunderbolt 3 Cable--Thunderbolt 3 computer
Maximum performance will be 30% more compared with the Thunderbolt 2 Card (1350MB/s-->1750MB/s).

•Echo Express III-D or III-R Thunderbolt 3 Editions are this:
PCIe 3.0 slots--PCIe 3.0 Bridge--Sonnet Thunderbolt 3 Card--Thunderbolt 3 Cable--Thunderbolt 3 computer
Maximum performance will be twice as fast compared with the Thunderbolt 2 Editions (1350MB/s-->2700MB/s).

939 What power cable do I need for the Avid HDX card for the Echo III, Echo Express III-D, Echo II DV, xMac Pro Server, or xMac Studio?Nov-30-23
The 3-card cable for the Mac Pro that Avid includes with HDX card also works in the Sonnet's Echo III Desktop and Rackmount; the Echo Express III-D and III-R; Echo II DV Desktop, Rackmount, and Module; xMac Pro Server and xMac Studio. Just replace the cable that is inside the chassis with the Avid cable. If you need a replacement cable, Sonnet has made a power cable for a single Avid HDX card that is compatible with these chassis. The part number is TCB-HDXB and is available from Sonnet or Sonnet-authorized resellers. (Note that the Sonnet cable supports only one HDX card.) If you need to power two or three HDX cards, you need the Avid replacement cable: ASY.CBL.POWER.MACPRO XD_CORE.TRIPLE REV.A, Part Number: 9180-60004-00.
