Sonnet’s All-New eGFX Breakaway™ Box 650 Wins Post Pick Award at 2018 NAB Show

Powerful New Windows and macOS®-Compatible Thunderbolt™ 3 eGPU Chassis Supports All Graphics Cards Compatible With macOS High Sierra

IRVINE, CA—April 27, 2018—Sonnet Technologies today announced that its eGFX Breakaway™ Box 650 received a Post Picks Award for “standout” new products from Post Magazine following the 2018 NAB Show. The eGFX Breakaway Box 650 is the latest and most capable model in Sonnet’s series of Thunderbolt™ 3 to PCI Express® (PCIe®) eGPU expansion chassis for professional graphics and gaming applications. An eGPU expansion system boosts a computer’s performance by connecting a powerful desktop graphics processing (GPU) card via a Thunderbolt 3 port, and greatly enhancing its graphics processing capabilities.

The eGFX Breakaway Box 650 is ideal for use by professionals who need to run bandwidth-intensive graphics applications on their eGFX-compatible notebook, all-in-one, or other small-form-factor computers. Designed and qualified specifically for large, power-hungry GPU cards, including the AMD Radeon™ RX Vega 64 and overclocked NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 10 series-based cards, the Breakaway Box 650 is equipped with a 650-watt power supply to drive GPU cards with high transient peak power requirements. The chassis provides a single slot for installing any-sized Thunderbolt-compatible GPU card, and two 8-pin (6+2 pin) auxiliary power connectors to support cards requiring 375 watts of continuous power plus an additional 100 watts peak power.

“At a show as vast as NAB, it’s a daunting task to choose the most innovative and coolest new products, solutions, and technologies. But that’s exactly what Post’s team of writers, contributors, and industry pros accompished with the Post Picks, and it’s why this award is such a great honor,” said Robert Farnsworth, CEO of Sonnet Technologies. “With the eGFX Breakaway Box 650, we’re meeting the high demand for an eGPU chassis capable of supporting the higher standards of GPU cards like AMD’s Radeon Pro and RX Vega Series cards, while still providing up to 87 watts of upstream power delivery to support popular notebook computers.”

The Breakaway Box 650 is equipped with a 40Gbps Thunderbolt 3 port that enables data transfers up to 2750 MB/s, supporting all Thunderbolt-compatible GPU cards — such as AMD Radeon R9, RX, RX Vega, and Pro WX models; and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 9 and 10 series, Titan X and Xp, V, and Quadro® models — and all Thunderbolt-compatible non-GPU cards, too.

The eGFX Breakaway Box 650 (part number GPU-650W-TB3) is available from Sonnet Technologies and its dealers at an MSRP of $449. More information on the product is available at www.sonnettech.com/product/egfx-breakaway-box.html.
