The Yin-Yang is an obedient hub. The OS controls how to allocate communication bandwidth among devices. It seems that under Mac OS, if a FireWire 800 device is operating at full speed, then an FireWire 400 device attached to the hub gets only leftover bandwidth, which can be very low.
